Excerpts From the Stories I'll Never Write

[24] Eleutheromania

I heard the shattering of glass in the living room. I covered my ears using my hands, trying to shield myself from what I’m hearing. I hummed a tune to prevent my tears from falling.

“Let me go!”

They’re at it again, I thought.

“No! You’re not leaving this house, you understand?!” my father shouted. “You’re my wife so don’t you dare leave this fucking house!”

“Wife? Then, why don’t you start treating me like one?!”

“Shut up!”

I took deep breaths. Get me out of here.
